FACTS
- Exists to serve all of the residents of Cherokee
County, providing education and certified training programs for individuals, schools,
businesses, civic organizations, industry and municipalities.
- Promotes health and safety in the community through
classes in Lifeguarding, Water Safety, Babysitting, Disaster Prevention and Survival, Safe
Living for Seniors, First Aid, Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation and AED operation.
- Serves as the authorized liaison between members of the
United States Armed Forces and their family members by providing a 24/7 emergency
communication network.
- Provides emergency shelter, temporary housing, clothing,
food, first aid, transportation and relief and social services to victims of residential
fires, tornadoes, floods, emergency evacuations, hurricanes or other disasters.
- Partners with other community service organizations and
government agencies to bring needed services to Cherokee County residents such as utility
assistance for low income seniors or persons on disability income.
- Supports the efforts of ARC Blood Services by recruiting
volunteers and blood donors.
- Recognizes that volunteers more than 200 of them
are the backbone of the Cherokee County ARC. Volunteers represent 99 percent of the
chapter staff.
- Extends the compassion and generosity of the people of
Cherokee County to other disaster-affected areas by providing trained disaster volunteers.
- Prides itself on the fact that 98 percent of all money
contributed to the chapter remains in Cherokee County. The bulk (and often more) of the
remainder is returned to the chapter in the forms of grants and training scholarships.
- Celebrates 90+ years of service to Cherokee County,
chartered originally in 1917 and re-chartered in 1996.
- Lives the mission of the ARC To ease human
suffering through education, prevention and prompt relief efforts.
- Depends solely on contributions from individuals,
businesses, corporate and municipal entities and fund raisers to sustain itself and to
provide its services to Cherokee County.
